Tribal Tattoo Designs

Tribal Tattoos are for Everyone

Tribal tattoos are some of the most exciting symbols you can add to your body art collection.  They look bold for any skin type and have an air of maturity.  Perhaps it is because long ago in many cultures such skin decoration was allowed only after having passed certain tests that marked the journey into adulthood, but tribal tattoos look like a testament to having earned respect.  There is also a sense of belonging and an affiliation, acceptance and admiration for the past. A tribal tattoo tells the world you do not just follow trends, you understand and appreciate the value and beauty of traditions.

The current popularity with tribal tattoos started in the early 1990s.  As they were embraced by celebrities and sports figures, the public became interested and followed their heroes to the offices of tattoo artists around the country.  There is much that is attractive about these tattoos.  They have thick daring patterns usually done in dark shades and this can actually make the tattoo last longer without the need to be retouched.  The dark black ink does not fade as fast as other colors, so it keeps the look you originally went for when getting the tribal tattoos.  Tribal tattoos are not carved in stone. In older times, someone getting a tattoo had the design carved into his flesh, which was then flushed with ink and covered with ash. Certainly, this was a far more painful method of creating body art, but this sort of originality can still exist with tribal tattoos.  You can create your own design and decorate your skin with art that holds some meaning to you.

Remember when you begin the journey of finding the right tattoo for you that tribal tattoos have a very bold, distinct look and appeal.  The patterns are drawn with thick and audacious swooping and curving lines. The interlocking patterns woven around on the skin look good anywhere and can be used to incorporate non-related tattoos into one larger unit such as a half sleeve or full sleeve tattoo. A tribal tattoo can be wound around your arm, wrist, ankle, leg or lower arm.  They can also go well on the back, nape of the neck, shoulder, shoulder blade, or small of the back.  Some brave souls have any gone to the ultimate and gotten tribal tattoos connected from forehead to upper cheek.

You will want to be sure when getting a tribal tattoo that it is really what you want to do, as they are one of the most difficult and costly tattoos to remove. Covering them over with other tattoos might also prove problematic. However, getting the image you really want to be fairly easy.  Most tattoo artists have inked many tribal designs and can give clients an idea of their skill by showing them pictures of past success. Most are also willing to do an etching of the proposed tattoo as well so there are no surprises.
