It’s no secret tattoos are popular, and many couples choose to get tattooed to show their love. However, the newest trend is to have the tattoo right at the wedding! The whimsical idea means that artists can tattoo guests or the couple themselves to seal the deal. This new and different wedding idea has quickly gained popularity thanks to viral social media and one artist, despite having been around for a few years now.

The Inspiration

Robert Fiore based out of Lansdale Pennsylvania has been an artist for over 20 years and last year he started offering his services as The Wedding Tattooer. The idea came about when one of his relatives asked for him to tattoo him and his bride during their wedding as a joke. Fiore brought everything needed to the wedding and put a simple initial on the couple’s fingers. The photographer mentioned that she had never seen anything like it and the idea took off. Since then the booking have been rolling in.

How Does it Work?

Depending on the package and the location most artists some with a set selection of designs decided by the bride and groom in advance. These are generally simple designs that don’t require a lot of work, though the couple themselves may get more involved with a second session later. Not all states allow for tattooing outside of a tattoo parlor which is why you’re going to have to check state laws first before booking your own.

Safety

As with any tattoo safety for Fiore is paramount. All his equipment is sterilized back at the tattoo shop, you have to be sober to get tattooed, and all ink and tools are transported in sealed containers. He uses disposables as much as possible and used needles are removed and discarded at the tattoo shop rather than on site. There’s also the obligatory tattoo paperwork.

Fiore’s tattoo packages start between $800-1200 and can be anything from just the bride and groom to the wedding party and family depending on how many guests and how long he’s needed. Most people choose simple and minimal tattoos and he can also work bachelorette and bachelor parties too. He also offers discounts for PA weddings but will travel anywhere on the east coast. There’s also a discussion about outfitting a mobile tour bus as a tattoo studio which could be used to travel.

While permanent reminders of the wedding might not be everyone’s choice for anyone who likes to commemorate life events with ink this is a no-brainer. If your guests aren’t quite ready for that other brides have chosen a temporary tattoo bar with tattoo designs dedicated to their big day or whatever their theme is. Guests love interactive activities and if tattooing is a big deal in your relationship there’s no reason it shouldn’t be part of your wedding too.
